Our
Fruit and Vegetables
The EPA and the
U.S. Surgeon General acknowledged more studies are needed to determine
the relationship between chemical/pesticide exposure and harmful effects as well as a dramatic
increase in learning disabilities, autism, aggression, dyslexia and
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder amongst our children (1 in
6 American children are currently afflicted with the above disorders).
Children have particular vulnerabilities to pesticides because they
consume more food per unit of body weight than adults...and because
their organs, nervous and immune systems are still developing.
The Simple Truth
Is:
- The majority of
chemicals used on our fruit and vegetables are WATER INSOLUBLE; therefore
water alone will not remove these unwanted contaminants.
- The FDA inspects
less than 2% of all produce shipments, which means virtually EVERY
piece of contaminated fruit or vegetable is in route to your local
grocery store.
Does
all produce have contaminants?
Yes! Over
80% of all produce world-wide have surface pesticide residues. The remaining
20% or so are organically grown produce, which should still be washed
to insure safety. Other unwanted contaminants from handling, such as
human perspiration, oils, dirt and exhaust fumes from shipping, also
need to be washed away.
Why
can't I use household soaps or bleach on produce?
Household
soaps contain many undesirable chemicals that can be hazardous if ingested.
Furthermore, these detergents can penetrate the skin of the produce making
it impossible to rinse.
Is
your Fruit
and Vegetable Wash safe if ingested?
Yes, it
contains nothing that is toxic to the human body.
What
is in the formula?
Our non
toxic formula has a specific blend of surfactants/cleansing
agents, known as anionic and non-ionic surfactants, designed to dissolve,
and cleanse the pesticide residues found on produce. These ingredients
are naturally derived from plant oils. Polysorbate 20 is a sorbitol (sugar)
natural derivative from fruits such as berries and plums. Grapefruit
Seed Extract (GSE) has a proven track record as a non-toxic germicidal
agent. It contains no alcohol or chlorine and will not effect the taste
or smell of your produce.
How
do I use your Fruit and Vegetable Wash?
Apply a
small amount directly to individual pieces of produce.
For larger and harder
to clean items such as grapes, broccoli, lettuce etc. simply fill up
a bowl with water and add approximately 1 TBSP per quart of water. Agitate the water with the produce
for up to 30 seconds, apply vegetable brush if needed. Rinse thoroughly.
Use a colander for delicate items such as herbs, mushrooms and berries.
Why
do my apples have white spots on them after being washed?
The surface
glue that you "lifted" while washing or scrubbing will dry
in the form of white spots, if not dried immediately with a
towel.
I
buy Organic, do I need your Fruit and Vegetable Wash?
Yes. "Drift" from spraying at nearby non-organic farms, possible mislabeling and various organic fertilizers are potential hazards that need to be washed off. There are also other unwanted contaminants from handling such as human perspiration, oils, dirt and exhaust fumes from shipping. These undesirable contaminants need to be washed away.
How
do I wash berries, mushrooms, herbs?
Simply mix some Fruit and Vegetable Wash with water as you would
in a bowl for larger pieces of produce. Place your berries, mushrooms,
etc. in a colander, shake the colander while pouring solution over items.
The agitation will loosen any contaminants. End your cleaning by rinsing
with water.
How
are the Concentrate and ready-to-use formula different?
They are exactly the same formula with the exception that the Concentrate
is double the concentration of cleaning agents. This product is perfect
for the commercial and volume user.
What
is GSE (grapefruit seed extract) used for?
GSE is known for its natural anti-bacterial qualities. Consult www.gfex.com for
more research and information.
Traditional
Household Chemicals
Each
year approximately 1,000,000 children are poisoned accidentally in their
homes.
In a 5 year study,
the EPA recently reported many households had chemical levels that were
70 times higher inside the homes than outside.
Why
should I use natural cleaners?
Current research indicates there is a strong correlation between the
rise of respiratory problems and the use of "traditional" cleaners that
are prevalently found in households. Approximately 80,000 chemicals in
common use today have NEVER been checked for possible harmful effects on
adults AND children. The manufacturers of these chemicals are not
required to list ingredients found in traditional cleaners, including
some that are known carcinogens.
What
should I look for on a cleaner label, to avoid unnecessary toxins
in our home?
Buy products
with caution labels ("mild irritant") vs. warning labels (toxic,
dangerous chemicals).
Can
I use your Laundry Soap in a front loading washer?
Yes, simply
decrease the amount of soap to approximately 1 ounce. |
