Consumer Health Research, Inc. (CHR) was developed in 1987 specifically to promote consumer awareness about the misuse of pesticides on produce.   It was then that Dr. Donald C. Atkins, a noted scientist in the surfactant field, created the first formula, now known as Environné Fruit and Vegetable Wash, to effectively remove pesticides and other surface contaminants from fruits and vegetables. This revolutionary produce cleaner is by far the most effective, non-toxic way to eat healthy, the way nature intended!  

In 1994, our current President/CEO Diane M. Mahoney in her quest to find a solution for protecting children against toxic chemicals on their fruits and vegetables found and purchased this formula. In the early days you would have seen Diane bottling the formula in a basement while, at the time, she was completing a degree in Special Education.   It was through her studies that she first became aware of a suspected relationship between pesticides and the dramatic increase in serious childhood disorders, including autism and learning disabilities.

Shortly thereafter, Diane contacted the EPA and other governmental agencies in the pursuit of mandates to assist with regulating dangerous chemicals on the foods we eat.   She decided, after many frustrating and politically-charged disputes, to dedicate herself to the "David vs. Goliath" crusade by educating people about agricultural pesticides (a $37 billion industry), and by finding a way to protect children and provide families with pesticide free produce.

The Environné brand name was adopted in May 2000 which has allowed CHR, Inc. to expand their mission of protecting the environment, children and families by introducing a non-toxic natural household cleaning product line. After eighteen months of formulation and rigorous testing to ensure the ingredients are safe while providing maximum cleaning power, the Environné cleaning line was introduced. Today's line up includes the first ever natural Multi-Task Cleaner, Extra-Strength Cleaner, Liquid Laundry Soap and Spot and Stain Remover.  

Today, Diane continues her mission of protecting families and children out of their corporate office located in the wondrous Northwest along with her husband and their two young children. CHR's mission and dedication has also spread sales of Environné products across international borders to Canada, Czech Republic, Europe, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Turkey, and United Arab of Emirates.
